• Miroslav Tyrs founded the first sokol in 1862.  Primarily a fitness training center, the Sokol, also through lectures, discussions, and group outings provided what Tyrš viewed as physical, moral, and intellectual training for the nation. This training extended to members of all classes, and eventually to women. The movement also spread across all the regions populated by the Slavic culture in Germany, Serbia, Bulgaria, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and the rest of Austria-Hungary such as Slovenia and Croatia. 

  The badge is made from a gold coloured metal and features the profile of Tyrs, the badge face is 1cm high and has a long, stick pin fastener to the rear.  It dates from the 1932 100th anniversary of his birth.
