Product Description : Vintage VLS Military Forestry Forest Management Ministry of Defence Pin Badge - A 1960s gold coloured metal military/hunting themed pin from former Czechoslovakia, it is 1.4cm high and has a long, stick pin style fastener to the rear. Featuring the text VLS meaning Vojenske lesy a statky it would have been worn by members of the Czech Military forestry management team.
Historical Background In Czechoslovakia and in much of middle Europe; hunting and forestry have a rich tradition stretching back hundreds of years.Traditional hunting uniforms are still worn and age old customs observed. During the hunting season it is common to see hunting parties gathering in the early morning preparing for the daily hunt. The principal quarry are wild boars, deer, foxes, grouse and duck.
