Vagonka, based in Studenka, started producing railway carriages in 1902. In 1918 when Czechoslovakia was formed from former Austro-Hungarian territory, Czechoslovak State Railway (CSD) became the major customer.
During World War 2 the vagonka factories were heavily damaged and it wasn't until 1949 that full production started again. In this time Vagonka expanded their services to repairing rolling stock of neighbouring European countries that had been damaged during the war.
In 1950 Vagonka became Tatra Vagonka and further expanded its production facilities.
Vagonka still exists today as Skoda vagonka.
