A very pretty enamel pin badge from the former Soviet Union.
The badge face is 2.6cm wide and has a stick pin or a clasp style safety fastener to the rear.
-
The badge features the Tupolev 144 that first flew Moscow to Almaty for passengers between the dates 1977 1nd 1978. It was a short lived route for the supersonic airliner as it was plagued with technical difficulties.
The Tupolev Tu-144 was the first commercial supersonic transport aircraft. -
The prototype first flew on 31 December 1968 near Moscow, two months before the first flight of Concorde. The frequent comparisons to Concorde led to the Tu-144 being known as "Konkordski" in the West.
