  • An pretty antique pin badge made from a gold coloured metal. The badge face is 2.8cm high and has a screw ferrule uniform clasp style fastener to the rear. Featuring a 3D diving helmet with a red star underneath.  Awarded to young men and women who undertook and passed the dangerous deep sea diving qualification.

  • The Inscription reads "Bereit zur Arbeit und zur Verteidigung des Friedens", which translates to "Ready for Work and for the Defense of Peace." This was the central ideological motto of the GST Gesellschaft für Sport und Technik.
  • What began in 1952 as a mass organisation for the leisure activities of young people increasingly developed in a paramilitary direction. From the mid-1970s, the Society for Sport and Technology (GST) called itself the »socialist military organisation of the GDR« and took on the military education of adolescents. by Jörn Kleinhardt (6 Aug 2020)

  • Dating from the Cold War era in the German Democratic Republic (East Germany), this piece represents a specialized variation of the state's military or paramilitary sport-and-leisure qualification awards. Translated as "Ready for Work and for the Defense of Peace," the slogan reflects the socialist governance's emphasis on civil defense, dual physical preparedness, and professional specialized skills like maritime salvage or naval reconnaissance. This rare diving insignia offers a tangible window into Warsaw Pact military history and communist-era collectibles, which you can discover further across our selections of Cold War militaria and vintage political awards.
