• A golden coloured metal pin badge advertising Skoda cars and featuring the classic sports coupe, the rapid.

  The badge face is 1.9cm wide and has a long, stick pin fastener.

  The pin on sale here was created by mototechna. Mototechna were (they no longer exist) the government approved importer of cars and spares into communist Czechoslovakia.

  Historical Background

  Skoda, formed in 1859 as an armaments factory, produced their first car in 1905

  Skoda produced modern cars up until the communist coup in 1948 whereupon they were largely cut off from Western markets. The 1960's onwards saw a range of production cars that were based on outdated designs.

  Since the 1990's Skoda has been transformed by its partnership with VW of Germany into a very successful automotive company. Sales in 1991 were around 170 thousand new cars and in 2010 were 760 thousand.
