• An antique golden coloured metal Eska bicycles pin from former Czechoslovakia, the badge face is 2.5cm high and has a long, stick pin style fastener to the rear.

  It is a rare quality award from the 1950's, the text reads 'Za Zasluhy o Kvalitu Vyrobku' which means 'Merit for Excellent Quality Workmanship'

  Historical Background

  Eska are one of the most famous manufacturer of bicycles in the Czech Republic, mainly because the company was formed in 1911 by former employees of Cheb Premier, a well-known manufacturer of bicycles, prams and (mainly) motorcycles.

  By 1914 they produced 21,000 bicycles and also introduced a model with an auxiliary motor.

  In 1935 they began to produce a small motorcycle called ‘Eska Mofa’ (Motorfahrrad) with the uprated 98cc Fichtel & Sachs engine Sachs. The bike weighed 50 kg and drove 60 km / h. The body was designed separately.

  At the height of their production Eska and related firms employed around 5000 people in the Cheb area. The company now, no longer exists.
