Historical Significance
The history of Grand hotel is closely associated with the past of Brno. The first documented record of the hotel dates back to 1869 which stated that a hotel would be built in the place of the former ramparts. The hotel was built in 1870 and named Hotel Werner, after his founder till the end of the 19th century. During these years, the hotel was one of the most prestigious institutions in the city and welcomed many well-known and important guests such as the Emperor Franz Josef and the inventor Thomas Edison.
