• A 1950's metal pin badge 2.3cm high with the text PCO which means Civil Defense Readiness in Czech and also has this text along the bottom edge Pripraven K Civilni Obrane. This pin is from former Czechoslovakia and belonged to a civil defense worker who attained a grade 2 pass in civil defence.

  The rear side has a long, stick pin style fastener. The picture features factory chimneys and church spires that represent the city skyline.

  The top of the badge has a red star representing the red star of socialism.

  Historical Background

  During the height of the cold war, Czechoslovakia took its civil defense duties very seriously and to this day monthly sirens tests are carried out throughout Prague.

  The most common civil defense duties were ushering civilians towards shelters, enforcing blackout regulations and distributing gas masks.
