This pennant flag was manufactured for the Boxing Championships in the Czechoslovak city of Usti nad Labem. The flag face is 23cm high including the tassel end.
It is made from a fine weave, silk-like material with a stiffening board between the two sides. It is side stitched with a red cord edging that finishes in a hanging string.
The flag features the lion crest of Usti nad Labem and a boxing glove above it. The text reads 9th Annual 1978 Grand Prize in the City of Usti nad Labem.
The reverse side features the sporting crest of boxing club Red Star Usti nad Labem.
Historical Information
Czech boxing began after world war one and found a home in Usti nad Labem, an industrial and coal mining city bordering East Germany. The Czech championships have been held since 1969 and continue to do so in Usti.
