  • An extraordinarily rare silver coloured metal key chain 9cm long in total and with a 3cm high fob. The attachment style is via a opening and closing compression lever. Made in 1972 for the 1972 Ice Hockey World Championships held in former Czechoslovakia and featuring the event logo. The reverse side has the text 'Mistrovství světa v ledním hokeji Praha 1972'. Translated this is WORLD ICE HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIPS PRAGUE 1972

  • The 1972 Ice Hockey championship was a monumental moment in history for Czechoslovakia and its people.

  • The USSR had won the title in 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970 and 1971 and they were unstoppable. To prove a point the USSR won again in 1973, 1974, 1975. Only once, back in 1972, on home soil and in front of the home fans did the Czechs hold the Soviets to a 3-2 lead and win the tournament.

  • Politically, the Soviet Union had invaded Czechoslovakia in 1968 and silenced people who fought against the regime either by exerting pressure on them or holding show trials and then imprisoning them or just murdering them if at all possible. The Czechs hated the Russians.

  • The sense of national pride that emerged from the 1972 finals is something that will likely never be repeated and coming across this keyring, in excellent condition, is a real find.
