- A rare pin badge from the former Soviet Union featuring the text FOR PEACE and MOSCOW- NEW YORK 1960. and featuring the Baltika Ship
-
The badge face is 3cm wide, has a safety clasp style fastener to the rear and is made from a gold coloured metal.
It is a rare pin from the 1960 UN General Assembly in NYC where Khruschev arrived by sea on the newly commissioned Baltika. The meeting was televised and was a media sensation involving Kennedy, Khruschev and Fidel Castro a short year before the failed invasion of Cuba.
- In 1960, the Soviet ship Baltika made headlines when it transported Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev to New York City for a United Nations General Assembly session. The ship's arrival and Khrushchev's presence generated significant international attention and media coverage.
- The visit coincided with other significant events, such as Fidel Castro's presence at the UN and the ongoing Cold War tensions. The Baltika's visit was part of a broader period of high-stakes diplomacy and political manoeuvring between the United States and the Soviet Union.
