  • This is a pretty gold coloured metal pin badge and printed ribbon from the May day celebrations in former Czechoslovakia. Featuring a ribbon with the text May 1 and a gold coloured metal pin badge.
  • The badge has a long stick pin style fastener and is 2.2cm wide.
  • Back in the 1950's the Czechoslovak government produced pin badges with the year of the parade incorporated into the badge design. Then it seems in 1955 they introduced a ribbon to the pin badge. Then by 1956 someone had made the decision to print the dates on the ribbon and reuse a generic May 1st pin badge. Which is clever, but it seems a shame for collectors. Then in the 1990's the badge had been eliminated altogether and the dated ribbon was all that remained.
  • May day parades are still held to this day in The Czech Republic, they have always been based around the welcoming of springtime after the long, cold winter. Typically youth groups and fraternal organisations would parade down the streets along a specified route. Trade unions and the military would also march the route bearing banners and flags and to this day it is quite a spectacle.
