Product Description : 1950 CSPO Czechoslovakia Fire Fighting Fighter Union Regional Meeting Pin Badge

  • A very pretty, gold coloured metal pin badge celebrating the 1950 4th Okresni (regional) Sjezd (meeting) held in the town of Spindleruv Mlyn of the official fire service of former Czechoslovakia.

The badge face is 1.9cm wide and has a long stick pin style fastener to the rear.

    Historical Background

The CSPO were the socialist fire fighting organisation, the initials stand for Ceskoslovenskeho svazu pozarni ochrany or The Czechoslovak Union of Fire Fighters.

The first fire service was established in Prague in 1853 and each city, town and village had it's own independently operated fire service made up mainly from volunteers. It wasn't until after the second world war that a central organisational body was created with a distinct chain of command reflecting military organisations of the period.

This information was taken from the official web site of the Czech fire service.
