The peace dove was one of the most widespread political symbols of the Soviet Union. Adopted after World War 2 it was incorporated into the logos of International Women's Day, International Trade Union Day, The World Federation of Youth, The international Peace Race, The Blood Donors Association, Nuclear disarmament and numerous others.
It was a surprising choice for the Soviet bloc since the dove is a powerful Christian symbol. After the Russian revolution the Soviet Union actively sought to supress and undermine the power of the church and spread Atheism to the masses.
