The item is secured on the reverse by a horizontal safety pin fastener anchored by two vertical retaining brackets onto a textured, patterned backing.
The visual layout features a sharply segmented rectangular composition divided into upper and lower graphic zones by a crisp metal border. The upper field encloses a stylized high-voltage power transmission pylon superimposed directly over an atomic orbit model, while the lower section features a small diamond emblem containing a pair of raised, crossed mining hammers. This central imagery is flanked on three sides by a wide perimeter band bearing the capitalised German inscription "TAG DES BERGMANNS UND DES ENERGIEARBEITERS" alongside the date "1982" stamped in raised metal characters against a smooth background fill.

Dating from 1982, this commemorative insignia was produced in the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) to mark the official "Day of the Miner and Energy Worker" (Tag des Bergmanns und des Energiearbeiters). The integration of the electrical transmission tower and the atomic symbol alongside the historic mining hammers represents the socialist state's technological pride and its reliance on a unified grid system powered by both domestic brown coal and nuclear energy development. This exceptionally well-preserved piece offers excellent material insight into late Cold War industrial propaganda and Warsaw Pact trade union history, which you can investigate further within our collections of East German labor militaria and socialist industrial commemorative badges.

https://shop.badgecrazy.com/products/1982-east-german-gdr-tag-des-bergmanns-power-grid-nuclear-enamel-pin-badge
